Over the next few weeks we are going to be focusing on what it takes to be successful at online marketing. Like anything if you want to be successful you need to make a plan. To be successful at marketing your product or service online you therefore need to know the steps to take to be successful at online marketing. Today we are going to take a look at the number one step to online marketing success.

The number one step is to be clear about what your business is all about, what your company offers, and what your purpose is. The following questions will help you to clarify and understand what the marketing vision of your business is all about.

What kind of people are you trying to reach? What type of people are your products and services directed to.

What characteristics do your audience share? Male or female? Old, young or middle-aged? Highly educated or not? Where do they live? What are their hobbies? Where do they work? and so on.

What are they looking for? What do they want from the type of product or service you provide? What feeling are they trying to reach with it? Do they need it to feel happy? Do they need it to survive?

What do you actually do for them? Maybe you are already offering a product or service for that audience. This will give you a good idea of what exactly you need to tell any new people that fit into that same audience.

What kind of information would they be interested to know about and pay for? You already know the needs of your customers. You know exactly what kind of information will be highly helpful to them in order to help them to satisfy those needs.

How much money are they actually willing to pay for a particular product or service you offer? Are your audience looking for a low priced product/service or a premium one?

How would they like to reach that information? Does your audience prefer consuming content in Video, Audio, or Written form?

What are your competitors offering to your audience? In the marketing world, it is very important to study the competition that targets your exact audience. What do they generally offer? What things do they offer that you don’t? Do they have more clients? Do they work additional hours? Do they cover a lot more needs than you?

Can you offer a better service/product than your competitors? Once you know everything about your successful competitors, you can offer something similar with your personal touch plus a lot more great things that they are not offering.

These questions are very important in deciding how to establish a business online. We need to promote our business where our audience are likely to be in a way that they like to receive information. A scatter gun approach of a little in all kinds of places rarely works. What is needed is a planned approach. Online marketing is all about creating great content that increases your know, like and trust factor with your audience. You need to know who your target market is in order to reach more people who want your kind of product or service.
