The most commonly used social media platforms for promoting business in 2019 are Facebook and Instagram. They dominate the chart above. Twitter and LinkedIn come close together in position 3 and 4 and You Tube in 5th place.

• Instagram grew from 66%.
• Twitter fell from 62%.
• LinkedIn expanded from 56%.
• YouTube moved up from 50%.
• Pinterest rose slightly from 27%.
• Snapchat declined from 8%.

Nearly all Business to Consumer (B2C) Marketers are focused on Facebook but they are using Twitter less in favour of Instagram. New social media marketers (less than 1 year) also predominantly use Facebook and Instagram whereas those using social media for more than 5 years prefer a more diversified approach.

The platforms most favoured by Business to Business (B2B) Marketers are Facebook and LinkedIn. Twitter just coming third and Instagram 4th in the survey.

When asked what their favourite platform was and only one choice was accepted Facebook came in first at 61% (down from 67%), Instagram came in 2nd at 14%, followed by LinkedIn (14%) YouTube (5%) and Twitter (4%)

Facebook still dominates when it comes to marketing your business online but its dominance is decreasing. It is interesting to note that LinkedIn is still used less than Facebook when it comes to B2B Marketing when LinkedIn promotes itself as the Business Networking site. Twitter has been declining in popularity whilst Instagram is on the rise. Instagram is particularly important to B2C businesses.

Which platforms will you be using this year? Does your company do business to business marketing or business to consumer? This does make a difference in how you choose to become more visible online. If B2B I would focus on Facebook and LinkedIn but as a B2C my preference would be Facebook and Instagram. Do you feel the same way?
